Simon among top sports educators

Robert Simon, the Marjorie and  Robert W. McEwen Professor of Philosophy, has been named to the list of 100 Most Influential Sports Educators by the Institute for International Sport. Among other honorees are Andre Agassi, Tiger Woods, sportscaster Bob Costas and Duke University men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski. The list is a result of research conducted by Institute for International Sport executive director Dan Doyle for his book The Encyclopedia of Sport Parenting. (View the entire list.)

Simon's area of interest is ethics in sports, including steroid use among athletes. A past Rockefeller Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities fellow, he is the author of Fair Play, (Westview Press) on sports and social values. He is also author (with Norman E. Bowie) of The Individual and the Political Order and Neutrality and the –Academic Ethic, and editor of The Blackwell Guide to Political and Social Philosophy. Simon is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and sits on the editorial board for the Journal of the Philosophy of Sport.
