Men's track and field athlete wins seventh national title

Peter Kosgei '10 won the mile run at the NCAA Division III men's and women's indoor track and field championships held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Sports and Recreation Center in Terre Haute, Ind., on March 14.

The national title is the seventh overall for Kosgei, and his third in indoor track and field. Kosgei took first place with a school-record time of 4:08.58. The runner in second place crossed the finish line in 4:09.30. Kosgei also held the previous school record in the event with a time of 4:09.31.

"It felt good," Kosgei said. "I'm excited about winning the title. When I was running, I just knew I didn't want a photo finish."

Kosgei captured national titles and All-America honors in the 800-meter run and the mile at the 2008 NCAA Division III meet.

Teammate TiDelco Ductan '09 competed in the triple jump. Ductan finished sixth in his heat and 12th overall out of 14 athletes with a jump of 13.87 meters (45-feet-6¼). The mark did not qualify him for the championship finals. Ductan holds the school record in the event with a distance of 14.60 meters.
