Summer Internships 2008
Thanks to generous Hamilton alumni and parents, this summer 25 students are working across the U.S. in jobs ranging from TV production and summer camp EMT, to teaching migrant children and exploring historical research. These students were awarded funding from the College that enables them to pursue summer internships with organizations that cannot pay them.

Summer Research 2008
Although classes have ended for the 2007-08 academic year, 118 Hamilton students won't be going home right away. They'll spend at least part of their summer on campus conducting research with Hamilton faculty.

Exploring Borneo
Michael Singer '09 and Associate Professor of Theatre Craig Latrell spent several weeks in May - June 2007 visiting East Malaysia on an Emerson Student-Faculty grant concerning the effects of globalization on local cultures.

Oregon Field Study
Lizzy Finan '08 and Will Caffry '09 conducted field work on lizards in Oregon with Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology Pete Zani. The three are worked at a research site along Wright's Point in Burns, Ore.

2007 Tasmania Field Studies
Professor of geosciences Eugene Domack and associate professor of philosophy Katheryn Doran will lead a small group of students to Tasmania on June 1. The two-week field trip excursion to the island state of Australia is part of Geosciences 295: The Geology of Tasmania.

2007 Nevada Field School
In the midst of rattlesnakes, jack rabbits and coyotes, a group of 13 Hamilton students, led by Professor of Archaeology Tom Jones, embarked on Archaeological Field School. Located 35 miles from the closest town, Ely, Nevada, their camp lies next to a former Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) site.

Alternative Spring Break 2007
Sixty-six Hamilton students traded beach towels and suntan lotion for hammers and hardhats as they headed south to volunteer at nonprofits in six cities, including two that were still trying to recover from Hurricane Katrina

Summer Research 2007
More than 125 Hamilton students are spending at least part of their summer doing research with faculty members. Projects include "The Examination of the Suppression of Trauma on the Mind"; "The Link Between African Philanthropic Endeavors and Celebrity Patrons"; and "Studying Mussels And Predator Seastars on California Coast."

Razeena Shrestha '09 Studies Social Entrepreneurship in Nepal
"If you give a man a fish, you have fed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you have fed him for a lifetime." The proverb is familiar to many, but for social entrepreneurs, fishing lessons are still inadequate. According to Bill Drayton, founder of the Ashoka organization, "Social entrepreneurs are not content with providing a fish or teaching how to fish. They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry." Social entrepreneurs use commercial principles to organize and run ventures that work for social change.
