Undergraduate Research at Hamilton College

Professor of Chemistry Tim Elgren has been conducting research with Hamilton students for 14 of the last 15 years. The former president of the Council on Undergraduate Research, he tells why he enjoys working with students over the summer. "It's far more intense that during the academic year because every student is pushing forward on a project that invariably presents some 'troubleshooting.' That's the beauty and excitement of mentoring students working on an open-ended research question." Here, Elgren discusses how students and faculty benefit from their summer research collaboration.
