    November 5, 2009

Four Hamilton College field hockey players were honored by the Liberty League on Nov. 5 when the organization released its 2009 award winners and all-league teams.

Head coach Gillian McDonald and assistant Cheryl Casey were selected a co-coaching staff of the year by the league's head coaches. McDonald and Casey have guided Hamilton to a program record for wins (12) this year, its first league tournament championship game appearance and a share of the program's first regular season title.

Colleen Callaghan '11 (Queensbury, N.Y./Glens Falls HS) and Mary Lancaster '12 (Monkton, Md./Mercersburg Academy [Pa.]) made the first team at forward, and Erin McNally '12 (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake HS) joined them on the first team at midfield. Amy Allen '10 (Bright's Grove, Ontario/Loomis Chaffee School [Conn.]) was voted to the second team on defense.

Callaghan was first team all-league in 2008 and was honorable mention as a rookie. She ranks fifth in the league with 28 points, seventh with 11 goals and is tied for eighth with six assists. Her 28 points is tied for the third-highest total in one season in team history.

Lancaster has scored seven goals and assisted on three more for 17 points in 14 games this year. She scored the game-winning goal in sudden-victory overtime against William Smith College on Sept 25.

McNally was rookie of the year and first team all-league in 2008. She is tied for eighth in the league rankings with six assists. She has scored six goals, including the lone tally in a 1-0 win against nationally ranked No. 16 St. Lawrence University in the league tournament semifinals.

Allen has six goals and two assists for 14 points in 13 games. She leads a defense that ranks second in the league in fewest goals allowed and goals against average. She has helped the Continentals post five shutouts in 15 games.

Hamilton rides a six-game win streak into the league tournament final against Skidmore College at Skidmore on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m.
