In the News - Spring 2009Anechiarico Co-authors Detainee Policy PaperLead Article in ABA National Security Law Report(May 13, 2009) Frank Anechiarico, Maynard-Knox Professor of Government, has co-authored the lead article, titled "Looking Back to Go Forward: Remaking US Detainee Policy," in the March/April edition of the American Bar Association National Security Law Report. In the article, Anecharico and co-author and Lt. Col. James M. Durant III explain why and how detainee policy applied to those labeled enemy combatants collapsed and failed in 2008. More ... Kuhn '09 Among UWIRE Top 100 Student JournalistsHonored in 2008 and 2009(May 7, 2009) Eric Kuhn '09 has been named to the UWIRE 100 list, a select group of undergraduate and graduate students judged the top collegiate journalists in the country. This is the second year that Kuhn has been selected by UWIRE. Only seven other student journalists were chosen in both 2008 and 2009. More ... Leeann Brigham '09 Named to All-USA College Academic Honorable Mention Team(April 29, 2009)Leeann Brigham '09, a Senior Fellow at Hamilton, has been named to the All-USA College Academic Honorable Mention Team by USA Today. USA Today honors 19 Honorable Mention Team members for outstanding intellectual achievement and leadership. Christine Laine '83 Named Editor of Annals of Internal MedicineYoungest Editor in Journal's 82-Year History(April 27, 2009) The American College of Physicians (ACP) named Hamilton alumna Christine Laine '83, MD, MPH, FACP editor of its flagship journal, Annals of Internal Medicine last week. A former vice president and senior deputy editor of Annals, Laine is the youngest editor in the journal's history. She graduated summa cum laude from Hamilton with a double major in writing and biology. More ... Editor Scott Jaschik reviewed similar decisions made by other institutions in years past including Hamilton's decision to become SAT-optional in 2001. Each week in the podcast Cohen answers readers' questions on ethical issues. The podcasts are broadcast on The New York Times Web site, nyt.com. The article noted that it is unusual for Venezuela for offer credit to the U.S., having suspended cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in 2005 under president Hugo Chavez. The former Iowa governor said farmers should see the Obama administration's new energy initiatives as opportunities to make new money, at a time when traditional farming policies run in the face of a soaring deficit.
