CLINTON, N.Y. – Mike Evans '05 (Weston, CT/Weston) poured in a career-high 25 points to lead Hamilton College to a 94-65 non-conference win against Cazenovia College in a men's basketball game at Scott Field House on Dec. 11.
Hamilton goes into the winter break with a 5-1 record. Cazenovia dropped to 2-4.
Evans was 9-for-11 from the field, including 5-of-6 from three-point range, and made both his free throw attempts. Joe Smith '04 (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) was a force on offense and defense with 22 points, 14 rebounds and six steals. Greg Leone '04 (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) added 12 points, seven boards and five assists. High-flying Tsakane Ngobeni '07 (Soweto, South Africa/St. Anne's-Belfield) was held to 10 points, which is his lowest output of the season.
Dan Gasparini '06 (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) led the Wildcats with 16 points and nine rebounds. Matt Wood '05 (Madison, NY/Madison) chipped in 13 points for Cazenovia, which turned the ball over 24 times.
The Continentals trailed 8-5 early, but a 26-4 run capped by an Evans jumper gave Hamilton a 31-12 lead en route to an overwhelming 51-21 halftime advantage. The Wildcats never seriously threatened that lead in the second half.
The Continentals host the Hamilton Invitational on Jan. 3 and 4, 2004. The tournament field is rounded out by Eastern Connecticut State, Worcester State and Washington and Jefferson College. Game times on Jan. 3 are 6 and 8 p.m. Cazenovia is at Worcester State on Dec. 13.
