Peter Kosgei '10 finished first in the 1,000-meter run and the mile as Hamilton College placed 11th in the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships at St. Lawrence University's Newell Field House on Feb. 29 and March 1.
Kosgei set meet and facility records in both events. He recorded a time of 2:27.82 in the 1,000 and crossed the finish line in 4:10.54 in the mile. Kosgei was selected the Most Outstanding Runner of the Meet. He has been a part of six program records this season.
Kosgei was the anchor leg for a distance medley relay that broke the school record by 10 seconds and finished in third place with a time of 10:15.76. The relay also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III championships, which are March 7 and 8 at Harvard University. Allan Guiney '08, Cuffie Winkler '10 and Keith Gross '09 rounded out the relay.
James Russell '09 tied for fourth in the pole vault as he cleared 4.41 meters (14-feet-5½). Russell's performance qualifies him for this week's ECAC meet.
Hamilton finished the meet with 30.5 team points. Fifteen teams scored at least one point. St. Lawrence edged Buffalo State College for the team title with 127.5 points to 127.
