Emerson Gallery Tour

Hamilton parents, students and art enthusiasts crowded the Emerson Gallery Saturday to hear co-curators Susanna White, Associate Director and Curator of the Emerson Gallery and Bill Salzillo, Professor of Art, and Kym Giacoppe '09 give a gallery talk on the exhibition Edward W. Root: Teacher, Collector and Naturalist, and the sophomore seminar that was taught in conjunction with the exhibition. The sophomore seminar was designed to introduce students to formal and theoretical analysis of works of art through the study of the life and work of Edward Root, the pioneering collector of American modernist art and Hamilton College educator. Bart Elsbach '83 Shows Work at OK Harris in New York

Bart Elsbach '83 will have a show of his work at OK Harris in New York City from December 1, 2007 through January 5, 2008. The artist will be present on December 1 form 3 -5 p.m. Elbach graduated from Hamilton in 1983 with a degree in creative writing and continued his education at NYU where he earned his master of arts. At Hamilton Elbach played men's squash and tennis and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi. He currently lives in Sheffield, Mass. with his wife and two children. More ...

Milton Kayle '43 Interviewed for Fox News Documentary About Harry Truman

Milton Kayle '43 was interviewed for a Fox News channel documentary "War Stories with Oliver North, Biography - Harry S. Truman," which will be broadcast on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 9 p.m. (Check local TV listings). Kayle was a member of President Truman's White House staff from 1951 to 1953.

Chef Stephen Durfee '85 leads Alumni College

30 guests create their own chocolate masterpieces

Nearly 30 alumni, parents, friends and children gathered at the Culinary Institute of America in Greystone, CA on October 27, 2007 to participate in a chocolate demonstration with Chef Stephen Durfee '85, Pasty Chef at the school. Recently awarded the title Certified Executive Pastry Chef by the American Culinary Federation, Chef Durfee has had a long career as an award winning pasty chef. During the chocolate demonstration, Chef Durfee led the alumni association through a participatory candy making demonstration and offered a presentation titled "Chocolate 101." Deborah Forte '75 is Producer of New Film The Golden Compass

Deborah Forte '75, Hamilton trustee and president of Scholastic Media, Inc., is a producer of the film The Golden Compass which will be released by New Line Cinema on December 7. The Golden Compass is the first novel in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy and stars Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Sam Elliott and Eva Green. More ...

Rivera Presents Paper at Slavic Studies Conference

Assistant Professor of Government Sharon Werning Rivera presented a paper titled "The Russian Elite during Putin's Second Term: Has Militarization Continued?"
at the annual conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies on Nov. 16 in New Orleans. Rivera and her co-author, government lecturer David W. Rivera, revisit the question they addressed in a 2006 article in Post-Soviet Affairs, whether Russian President Vladimir Putin has created a "neo-KGB state."

Pliskin and Jones Invited to International Economic Meeting

Jeff Pliskin, Associate Professor of Economics and Director of the Levitt Center, and Derek Jones, Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, were invited attendees at the First International Economic Research Meeting of the Mondragon Cooperative Academic Community. The meeting was hosted by the Mondragon University business studies faculty in Oñati, Spain, Dec. 3-4.
