Peter Tague ’88 delivered a talk to Professor Erol Balkan’s International Finance class on April 12 in KJ.  A lifetime investment banker, Tague was recently promoted to the position of global head of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for Citigroup, and is also a vice chairman of the firm. Tague covered a myriad of topics for the class, ranging from the current crises in Greece and the greater Eurozone to how a typical M&A transaction works, and even attempted to answer the question, “Will China take over the world?”

As Hamilton’s trustees gathered this past week on the Hill for their meetings, two alumni took the opportunity to speak with a select group of students about career paths, life, and the state of the global economy. Rob Morris ’76 and Henry Bedford ’76 spoke to students in Professor Erol Balkan’s International Finance course on March 1 and 2, respectively, providing perspective on topics relevant to the class’s course material.

Hamilton’s New York City Program students participated in their semester’s final event with a visit Robert Morris ’76 in Stamford, Conn., on Dec. 6. Morris invited the group to dine at his offices, where he manages Olympus Partners, a private equity firm with more than $3 billion in assets under management. To date the group had not spoken with an alumnus in the private equity industry, and Morris hosted a visit to remember.

Hamilton’s New York City Program participants wrapped up the semester with visits to the New York Federal Reserve and the Bank of New York Mellon on Nov. 30. The students began their day with a visit to the Fed. for an informal discussion on the Eurozone crisis.

The students on Hamilton’s New York City Program recently ventured up to Midtown East to visit the corporate offices of one of the United States’ most iconic luxury retailers. Steven Sadove ’73, chairman and CEO of Saks 5th Avenue, Inc., invited the 15 students to his corporate offices for a discussion on the current state of the retail industry.

Students in Hamilton’s Program in New York City recently attended a breakfast hosted by alumni at Citigroup, giving them a chance to informally connect with alumni in the industry.  Citi’s banking offices are located in Tribeca, not too far from Hamilton’s apartments in Battery Park City. The event was hosted by  alumni Jeffrey Schackner ‘89 and Peter Tague ‘88.

The Hamilton students in NYC attended a lecture by renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs titled “The Price of Civilization: Reawakening American Virtue and Prosperity” on Oct. 25.  Sachs is the Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, professor of health policy and management, and director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, and special advisor the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The students on Hamilton’s NYC program attended a lecture at NYU’s Stern School of Business, hosted by David Backus ’75, a professor of economics at Stern. The lecture covered topics from foreign exchange to the European crisis to the current fiscal problems facing the United States.

The students in Hamilton’s NYC program participated in their first organized cultural outing as a group, visiting the Lyonel Feininger exhibit at the Whitney Museum on New York’s Upper East Side on Oct. 12.

Hamilton’s semi-annual Wall Street Association meeting on Oct. 5 featured a discussion on the current state of the capital markets with a panel of alumni experts. The event at the Racquet and Tennis Club was moderated by Susan Skerritt K’77, P’11,  of The Bank of New York Mellon. Panelists include Harold Bogle ’75, P’14, Credit Suisse; Andrew Taylor ’88, JP Morgan Chase Co.; and Jennifer Murphy Hill ’87,  Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
