Professional News Submission FormExamples: Professional meeting example: Ernest Williams, the Leonard C. Ferguson Professor of Biology, presented at the annual meeting of the Lepidopterists' Society, held at the University of Florida, Gainesville, June 14-18. He gave a talk (co-authored with Associate Professor of Biology Bill Pfitsch) titled "Frosted Elfin Butterflies and Management of their Habitat." He has been secretary of the Society for the past eight years, so also participated in the business meetings. This is an international society focused on the scientific study of butterflies and moths. Attendees came from 13 countries and 33 states; the countries included Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Spain, Canada and the USA. Publishing of paper example: Professor of Physics Ann Silversmith wrote an article for Journal of Luminescence (vol. 121, Nov. 06), co-authored by Professor of Chemistry Karen Brewer and Hamilton students Dan Campbell '08 and Yubo Lu '07. The article, "5D3 7FJ emission in terbium-doped sol-gel glasses," was also co-authored by Davidson College Physics Professor Daniel M. Boye and Colleen Gillespie, Davidson '06. Book chapter example: Visiting Professor of Communication John Adams is the author of a chapter in Rhetorics of Display, Lawrence Prelli, ed., (University of South Carolina Press, Columbia, SC: 2006). Adams' chapter, "Epideictic and Its Cultured Reception: In Memory of the Firefighters," uses former President Bill Clinton's eulogy of six firefighters killed during a warehouse fire in Worcester, Massachusetts, as a case study. According to the editor's introduction, Adams "shows how epideictic can evoke a civic ethos enabling citizens to find in civic virtue a model of concord amidst the discord of public political life, provided that they are rightly predisposed to acknowledge its 'display' when actually exhibited before them." |
