Katie Veasey '17 and Liz Morris '16 lead the Hamilton College women's golf team into 2015-16 as the Continentals open the fall season at the St. Lawrence University Invitational on Sept. 5 and 6.

The women are entering just their fourth season of varsity competition and Morris is in line to become the program's first four-year letter winner. The Continentals captured their first tournament title at the 2015 SUNY Delhi Spring Invitational, and Veasey and Anne Govern '15 earned spots on the all-tournament team.

On Sept. 4 the NESCAC announced that it was adding women's golf as a conference-sponsored sport effective immediately. As a result, the inaugural NESCAC Women’s Golf Championship will be a two-day, 36-hole event on Oct. 10 and 11 at the Taconic Golf Club in conjunction with the Williams College Fall Classic.

Veasey has been the team's best player since she stepped on campus in the fall of 2013. Last season she posted eight rounds in the 80's, including a career-best 80 in the season-opening tournament at St. Lawrence. She was especially effective in the spring as her worst score in the last three tournaments was 90.

Morris and Charlotte Chandler '17 should be able to stay in the lineup with Veasey for most tournaments this season. Newcomers Libbie Warner '19 and Electra Washburn '19 are expected to make an immediate impact.

"The team's qualifying scores were the best in recent memory, and they are very excited and looking forward to the season ahead," head coach Steve Stetson said.

In addition to the tournament at St. Lawrence and the newly minted NESCAC championship, the fall schedule includes tournaments at SUNY Cobleskill and Le Moyne College. The Hamilton men and women will host an invitational at the Yahnundasis Golf Club on Sept. 26 and 27. In March the team travels to Florida to practice and compete against other schools during Hamilton's two-week spring break.
