Dear Tamar and the Hamilton College Community,

I want to send my sincerest thanks to all of you for your great generosity. Starting Christmas day the members of my company starting receiving care packages in great multitude; comprised of snacks, magazines, toiletries, sundries etc. These items have brought great joy to the many soldiers that they reached.

Christmas here in Iraq was made much more enjoyable by the generosity of the Hamilton College community. Many of the soldiers did not receive much in the way of Christmas gifts so the packages made a nice gesture toward normalcy in this very abnormal environment.

Hamilton College has done so much to help my personal struggle through this long time away from home. The correspondence by my fellow employees has done great things to improve my morale. The updates on what is going on, how people are doing and new projects on the hill all help me keep abreast of a life I formerly knew. This compounded by the unexpected kindness of the students has brought me great joy throughout my time here in Iraq.

Enclosed is a picture of the guys from 3rd Platoon. This will help to put a face to the people who you have helped during this holiday season. They have all expressed their thanks and want to let you all know how much they appreciate this act of kindness. From all of us here at FOB Warhorse we want to sincerely thank you and wish you a happy holiday season.

Thankfully Yours,

SGT John B. Gates
