Troy native will get his chance in goal with Richter out for season
The New York Rangers, looking to replace injured goalie Mike Richter, claimed Troy native Guy Hebert off waivers Wednesday from the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
Hebert, a 34-year-old graduate of La Salle Institute and Division III Hamilton College, became expendable in Anaheim because of the emergence of Jean-Sebastien Giguere and the acquisition of Steve Shields on Monday in the trade that sent leading-scorer Teemu Selanne to San Jose.
"I think that's great,' Hamilton coach Phil Grady said. "Guy has so many friends from college who work in New York City, and obviously he has his family in the Troy-Schenectady area, so this will be a great shot in the arm for him."
