LTC Margaret Stock, an associate professor in the social sciences department at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, will present a lecture on “Immigration and the Law” on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the Fillius Events Barn at Hamilton. She is a speaker in the 2010-11 Levitt Center series which is focused on three thematically based programs: Security, Sustainability, and Inequality and Equity.

 

Stock is a nationally renowned attorney and expert in the fields of citizenship and immigration law. Her expertise has been called upon in Congress, where she testified before the subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, & International Law in May 2008. In 2005, the American Immigration Lawyers Association awarded her its prestigious Advocacy Award for her efforts to inform the public and Congress about the connection between immigration and national security.

 

Stock received her bachelor’s degree from Radcliffe College and her J.D. from Harvard Law School. Before teaching at West Point, Stock spent many years practicing immigration law in Alaska and working with the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
