The annual Alternative Spring Break auction will be held on Friday, March 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Commons Dining Hall. Everyone in the Hamilton community is encouraged to attend to bid on some great prizes and support Hamilton's ASB trips.  Entertainment will be provided by the Buffers and Hamiltones and step-team Finesse. The event is sponsored by the President's Office.

The silent auction and dinner (with campus "celebrity chefs" serving at food stations!) will be held from 6:30 - 8 p.m., and the live auction begins at 8 p.m. Some of the items donated include a round-trip plane ticket on USAir anywhere in North America; a quilt made by Theresa Gallagher; an Italian dinner for 8 at the Tantillo's; dinner for four at the Horned Dorset (donated by Jack Withiam '71); two tickets to any Glimmerglass Opera 2002 season performance; six bottles of fine wine (donated by Jerry Dirvin '59).

The event is free and open to the entire community.  The proceeds go to offset the one-week community service spring break trips down South.  This year's trips include:  Urban Plunge in Washington, DC, New Orleans and New York City, where students will work with various sites in each city for homeless and hunger issues and community involvement; Nature Conservancy in Douglas, GA, where participants will be camping and getting close to -- and helping to preserve -- nature;  YWCA in Jacksonville, FL, where students will live in and assist community programs sponsored by the YWCA of the city; Habitat for Humanity trip in Hickory, NC, where they will build a new house for a needy family in the area; Rockhill, SC, Home for Girls, help with maintenance projects combined with interaction with the residents of the home (site sponsored by Julia Nichols, mother of Mary Jane Nichols '02); and Nature Conservancy -- Tennessee Trails, Crossville, TN, help maintain trails and ecological projects.
