Andrew Fiala, professor of philosophy and director of the Ethics Center at California State University, Fresno, will give a lecture on Thursday, March 1, at 4 p.m. in the Dwight Lounge, Bristol Center. Fiala’s lecture, titled “The Just War Myth: From Bush to Obama,” is part of the Levitt Center’s Series on Security and is free and open to the public. 

 

Fiala has authored five books, including, The Philosopher’s Voice, Practical Pacifism, Tolerance and the Ethical Life, and What Would Jesus Really Do? His most recent book, The Just War Myth, challenges the sentiment that war can be easily justified and advocates for a “practical pacifism.”

 

Fiala holds degrees in philosophy and ethics from UCLA, Fresno State and Vanderbilt University.  He is widely published in academic journals on ethics and political philosophy and is currently editor of the journal, Philosophy in the Contemporary World.
