Carl T. Hayden '63 has been nominated to serve as chair and member of the State University of New York (SUNY) Board of Trustees by New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. Hayden will also serve as chair of the search committee that will conduct a nationwide search for a permanent SUNY Chancellor. 

Hayden was nominated Chancellor Emeritus of the New York State Board of Regents in April 2002 after 12 years on the Board. He was originally elected to the Board of Regents in 1990, and was elected Chancellor in 1995. Hayden currently serves as chairman of the board of the New York State Health Foundation and chairs the Chemung County School Readiness Project. From 2003 to 2007, he was a director of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and the Campaign for Fiscal Equity. 

Hayden is a former president of the Elmira City School District Board of Education. He received his B.A. from Hamilton College and his J.D. from Cornell Law School. Hayden taught the Topics in Public Policy course during the spring 2006 term for the Government department at Hamilton.
