“Navigating Diaspora: The Precarious Depths of the Italian Immigration Crisis,” focuses on the contemporary immigration crisis in Italy. According to the abstract, Carter’s essay “explores the peculiar vulnerabilities of newcomers in Italy in a climate of reception complicated by declining economic fortunes, tensions over the new contours of the European Union.”
