Dean Obeidallah, comedian and political satirist, will perform at Hamilton on Tuesday, April 12, at 7 p.m., in the Fillius Events Barn. The performance is sponsored by the Hamilton College Democrats and is free and open to the public.

Obeidallah grew up in New Jersey but is of Italian and Palestinian descent, and draws on his Middle Eastern heritage in his comedy to both entertain and dispel negative stereotypes of Middle Eastern-Americans. His groundbreaking humor is equal parts political and observational, and he performs around the country with the goal of fostering peace and cultural understanding through comedy. Obeidallah is co-founder of the New York Arab-American Comedy Festival and co-creator of Stand Up for Peace, a show which he performs across the United States with Jewish-American comedian Scott Blakeman.

Obeidallah won the Spirit of Bill Hicks Award from the New York Underground Comedy Festival in 2005 for “thought-provoking comedy.” He has been featured nationally on numerous television programs, including Comedy Central’s Axis of Evil, ABC’s 20/20, and CNN’s Inside the Middle East. A regular Huffington Post columnist, he has also been featured in TIME magazine, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times.
