A two-day conference, "Cracking India: Literary and Historical Representations of Partition"
will held on the Hamilton campus, April 12-13.
The conference will begin on Friday April 12, at 7:30 p.m with the showing of the film, Earth, based on Bapsi Sidhwa's novel, Cracking India. On Saturday, April 13, panels will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring historians Gyanendra Pandey, author of Remembering Partition, and Ruby Lal; writer Ved Mehta, whose memoir, The Ledge Between the Streams, recounts his experience of Partition as a young boy in the city of Lahore; novelist Bapsi Sidhwa, whose novel Cracking India is also about a child's experience of Partition in Lahore (Sidhwa will participate via a videoconference hookup).
The conference will also feature presentations from selected students in the seminar, Cracking India, and a roundtable discussion of the legacy of Partition as seen in contemporary issues.
