For the third straight year, the Hamilton College Curling Team struck gold in Chicago. Team Blue (lead Katherine Alser '09, second Yuqi Mao '09, vice Tom Irvin '09 and skip David Hamilton '09) managed to piece together an undefeated run for the second straight year, finishing first in Division II.
After never trailing in their first two wins over Denver and Nebraska, their final two wins came in thrilling come-from-behind fashion against Ohio State University and Northwestern University. As a foursome, Team Blue finishes their career with a record of 19-2 in national and regional play, and also won golds in Division V in 2007, Division III in 2008, and at the Great Lakes Regional Championship in 2009.
Team Buff (lead Tim Currier '09, second Chris Kline '12, vice Lindsay Shankman '12, and skip Tom Helmuth '09) also put together an impressive run through the tournament. After a loss to UPenn in their first game, they rebounded to win their pool with wins over Boston University and Denver. They came up just short in their gold medal match, losing in the final end to another team from Northwestern, but left Chicago with a hard earned silver medal in Division IV.
The curling team practices on Sunday afternoons at the Utica Curling Club in Whitesboro, and the season extends from October to March.
