The Emerson Gallery at Hamilton College announces the D. Roger Howlett '66 Award for Writing on Art, "A Response to Art." This special award celebrates the Emerson Gallery's 20th Anniversary and is being held in conjunction with the gallery's Hamilton Collects American Art  exhibition, April 19 through June 9.

The writing award's theme "A Response to Art" can be broadly interpreted, though the writing must be inspired by the Hamilton Collects American Art show, and include reference to at least one piece from the exhibition. Submissions can take the form of essays, poetry, narrative or creative writings, as well as research or historical pieces.
Award levels are as follows: Two $250 awards for college students; three $100 awards for 9th - 12th grade students; four $50 awards for 6th - 8th grade students.

GUIDELINES:
Submissions not to exceed 2500 words for college entries; 1000 words for grades 6 - 12.
Entries must be typed and double spaced on 8 1/2 x 11" paper.

DUE DATES:
College students: Due May 1- Awards announced Class and Charter Day, May 10th
6th - 12th grade students: Due May 24th - Awards announced Reunion Weekend, June 6-9.
