Dr. Richard Shore will perform a one-man show about the life, ideas and adventures of Sierra Club founder John Muir on Wednesday, April 10, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel at Hamilton College. The performance, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the environmental studies program.

Through story and song Shore recounts the life of John Muir -- writer, glacial geologist, naturalist, father of Yosemite, founder of the Sierra Club and architect of the National Park Service. Shore brings both personal and professional expertise to his show. Born in the shadow of John Muir's beloved Sierra Nevada, Shore hiked and camped in Yosemite and valleys throughout the west coast while he was growing up.

Shore's formal education includes a Ph.D. in zoology from Duke University, master's coursework in ecology and economics, and a master's degree in operations analysis. He is a certified quality engineer and has served in both industrial and government organizations.

Shore's life-long passion for the theatre has enhanced this John Muir presentation, titled The 1,000 Mile Walk, which he has given all over the United States, enthralling more than 31,000 people since 1987.

His clients include Elderhostel, universities and colleges, the U.S. Army, state chapters of the Sierra Club, the Audubon Society Nature Conservancy as well as civic and religious groups. Shore has been featured on TV and radio talk shows.
