"By all means; beg, buy or steal Fallen Giants," begins a recent review of Fallen Giants: A History of Himalayan Mountaineering from the Age of Empire to the Age of Extremes, co-authored by James L. Ferguson Professor of History Maurice Isserman and University of Rochester Professor of History Stewart Weaver. The review appears in the summer/fall 2009 issue of Appalachia, America's longest-running journal of mountaineering and conservation.

Jeffrey Perrette, the reviewer, describes the book in glowing terms: "surprisingly entertaining … covering a mass of detailed information with remarkable accuracy." He continues, "To duplicate that information would require access to a significant Himalayan library."
