Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Cryer will stage a performance of Fires in the Mirror by Anna Deavere Smith at Cazenovia College on Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Catherine E. Cummings Theatre. Two sold-out shows were performed at Hamilton on Jan. 19 and 20 to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Playwright Anna Deavere Smith interviewed and played various individuals connected to the 1991 Crown Heights, Brooklyn, riot between African-Americans and Lubavitch Jews. In an interwoven series of brief monologues, Smith presents 29 characters based on verbatim excerpts from interviews conducted with her subjects. The play seeks to facilitate intercultural exchange and public discussion about sexual and racial politics, ethnic identity and multiculturalism.
