Hamilton College's Emerson Gallery is offering an intriguing, concurrent trio of print exhibitions this fall.  Open through November 2, this graphic triple-header includes one gallery devoted to contemporary, large format prints from the Emerson Gallery permanent collection. The second gallery focuses on Hamilton painting and printmaking professor Bruce Muirhead's collection of the best Hamilton student prints gathered over 30 years.  The third gallery is slated for the Southern Graphics Council Student-Juried Exhibition.

Emerson Gallery Interim Director David Nathans organized the exhibition. A public reception, which will include presentations and refreshments, will be held on November 1.

The contemporary prints exhibit includes 15 selections from Hamilton's collection of over 300 large-format prints.  Spanning from 1960 to 1990, the prints were created by some of the most important artists of the period--Jaspers Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Larry Rivers, William Wegman and Jim Dine--and include lithographs, etchings and silk-screened works on paper.

The 30-year student print retrospective totals 140 prints and highlights traditional printmaking techniques combined with student creativity.  Techniques range from etching to aquatint to dry point and engraving.  Muirhead, who begins his 30th year in Hamilton studio classes this fall, selected the best from his students over the last three decades in the development of this collection.

Southern Graphics Council Student-Juried Exhibition is presented by the Amity Art Foundation, an organization dedicated to the support of young printmakers founded by Hamilton alumnus John A. Stewart '64.   The show includes 30 of the best prints from over 450 submitted by college students across the nation.
