Hamilton College linebacker John Lawrence '10 (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville HS) has been selected a preseason All-American for NCAA Division III by Lindy's Sports in the organization's 2009 college football publication.
Lawrence was placed on the second team and is one of 24 players honored on defense. He made the New England Small College Athletic Conference all-conference second team as a junior in 2008 after he led the NESCAC with seven interceptions and returned one 69 yards for a touchdown.
Lawrence ranked second on the team with 53 tackles and also broke up five passes last year. He led a unit that ranked third in the NESCAC in total defense as the Continentals allowed 297.9 yards per game. He was named the 2006 NESCAC Rookie of the Year.
Lawrence -- one of four team captains this year -- and Hamilton open the season with a home game against Amherst College on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m.
