Former Hamilton College men's golfer Dan Head '03 played in the finals of the 102nd Massachusetts Amateur Championship at Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton, Mass., on July 16.

Head lost 2 and 1 to 2008 Mass. Amateur champion John Hadges in the 36-hole match play final. Head grabbed a 1-up lead with eight holes to play, but Hadges went back in front on the 31st hole and clinched the victory with one hole remaining.

The 29-year-old Head is from Wellesley and represents Wellesley Country Club. He made the 2002 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) all-conference second team based on his performance at that year's NESCAC championships.

Head tied for fifth place in the stroke play portion of the event with a 36-hole total of 2-over par to qualify for match play. He won his first match in extra holes and his second 2-up. Head edged his quarterfinal opponent by a 1-up margin before he breezed to a 7 and 5 victory in the semifinals.
