Mitchell Stevens, former professor of sociology at Hamilton, will give a lecture titled "Is College Welfare?' on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel.
Stevens is now a professor of educational sociology at NYU's Steinhardt School of Education, and in January will begin teaching at Stanford University. He is the author of Creating a Class: College Admissions and the Education of Elites (2007) and Kingdom of Children: Culture and Controversy in the Homeschooling Movement (2001).
The lecture is sponsored by the sociology department with funding from the Dean's Speaker Fund. It is free and open to the public
