Barbara Gold, the Edward North Professor of Classics, gave a plenary address at the biennial Celtic Conference in Classics held June 25-28 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her address was titled “Simone Weil: Receiving the Iliad.”

The paper was originally part of a panel on “Forms of Violence, Forms of Hierarchy” before it was chosen to be a plenary. The panel was co-organized by Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz, professor of comparative literature, who also presented a roundtable discussion on “Hierarchies of Violence Ancient and Modern: What can we do? Why do we bother?” at the conference.

Comments

Umm, I thot "plenary" was an adjective. What fancy tap dancing is here afoot to turn it into a noun? "...chosen to be a plenary."

But kudos to Ms. Gold for the honor. Now if only my son Max (UC-Davis--Classics) could find a job at a place as wondrous as Hamilton.
