Hamilton College seniors are facing the harsh reality that their dream job may not fall right into their lap. Hamilton seniors were the focus of an article in the Utica Observer Dispatch detailing the scarcity of jobs for soon to be college graduates.
Mary Vallelonga, assistant director of the Hamilton College Career Center, has been encouraging students to think outside the box in terms of job location. She says, "We're encouraging some people to be a little more flexible, to go to areas that are not huge cities." Due to the lagging economy many companies are on a hiring freeze and college graduates will simply have to have patience when searching the job market. Senior Kerrin Damon says, "I know I'll get a job at some point, I'm trying to be patient." Hamilton seniors are obviously not lacking any marketability with their excellent writing and speaking skills, it is simply a matter of who's hiring?
