Hamilton opened the always challenging Maine trip with a
showdown at Bates College on Saturday, Jan. 18. Hamilton seemed in control for
most of the game until a late rally left hte Bobcats down three with only a few
seconds remaining. A desperation three-pointer by Bates swished through as the
buzzer sounded, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. But Hamilton, led by
sophomore Michael Schantz, took control in the overtime period. Schantz scored
nine and senior Kevin Larson scored five of Hamilton's 19 overtime points, as
the Continentals won 111-108. Four Hamilton players had career highs in the
overtime win. Schantz had 31, Larson 27, and sophomore Lamar Johnson, senior
JJ Raeds and junior Kevin Thorpe each had 20. Schantz added 16 rebounds and
Readts 12 boards.
