The segment, which includes commentary by Haley on Cleopatra, was taped on the Hamilton campus in the spring. Other interviews were conducted in Egypt, Paris, Cambridge (England) and Cambridge (Mass.). It will air in the United Kingdom on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
The BBC segment represents the third television program that has interviewed Haley in the past 18 months. More than a year ago, Morley Safer of CBS' 60 Minutes came to Hamilton to interview Haley for a segment on Afrocentrism, and earlier this fall she was interviewed for an upcoming segment on The Learning Channel. "The Glory That Was Rome" has been tentatively scheduled to air in March.
Haley joined the Hamilton faculty in 1989. Her areas of research include classics and the classical tradition in North America, race and gender in classical antiquity, and ancient Africa and its suppression in classical scholarship.
