Each year, the UNA of the Upper Mohawk Valley hosts a U.N. Day celebration at a local college campus. International students from area high schools and colleges are invited to participate in marking the anniversary of the creation of the U.N.
This year's celebration will feature the traditional Roll Call of Nations, during which each nation represented by an international student will be recognized, and a bagpipe solo by Alwyn Chick. Chick is a Watson Scholar from Scotland studying at Hamilton this year.
John Cormican of Utica College will present "Language and Culture and their Relationship to our Perceptions." Kerry Sethi, director of multicultural affairs at Hamilton, will announce the winners of an elementary and middle school art and essay competition, and UNICEF cards and gifts will be available for purchase.
The UNA invites all international guests attending the event to wear traditional dress. For more information on the 1996 U.N. Day celebration, contact the UNA of the Upper Mohawk Valley at 735-3112.
