Michael "Doc" Woods

The Hamilton College Jazz Ensemble performs their winter concert, “Get Wid It!” on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.

Lead by “Doctuh” Michael E. Woods, the Jazz Ensemble will play a selection of jazz standards and new charts for big band.

Woods is the director of jazz studies at Hamilton College.  As a composer, he was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. He has written more than 500 pieces in all styles. Woods' compositions have been performed by the Albany Symphony,  the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, the Little Rock Symphony, the Tulsa Philharmonic, the Lafayette Symphony (Lafayette, Ind.), the Pro Musica Orchestra (Columbus, Ind.), the Central New York Jazz Orchestra, and the Salt City Jazz Collective.
