Samuel H. Jackson, a junior at Hamilton College, has been awarded a Beinecke Brothers Memorial Scholarship. Twenty scholarships were awarded nationally, out of 82 nominations.

A classical languages major from Syracuse, N.Y., Jackson is the third Hamilton student to receive the Beinecke. The Beinecke Scholarship program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue graduate studies in arts, humanities or social sciences and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study. Each scholar receives $2,000 upon completion of undergraduate studies, and a stipend of $15,000 for each of two years of graduate study.

The Beinecke Memorial Scholarship program was established by the board of directors of the Sperry Hutchinson Company to honor the three Beinecke brothers -- Edwin, Frederick and Walter -- who led the company for more than 50 years.
