The Hamilton Action Volunteer Outreach Coalition (HAVOC) and ElderLife, Inc. of Utica are teaming up for the First Annual Not-So-Silent Auction, to be held on Friday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at ElderLife, 1312 Genesee St., Utica. The live auction portion will begin at 5 p.m. All proceeds will benefit HAVOC's Alternative Spring Break program and ElderLife, Inc.

Alternative Spring Break began as a project of HAVOC during the 1993-93 academic year, when 20 students travelled to Miami to work on Hurricane Andrew relief with Habitat for Humanity during their spring break. This year, HAVOC is sponsoring seven trips during the March break, with Hamilton students travelling to North Carolina, Virginia and Florida to work with various national service organizations. Alternative Spring Break aims to increase participants' awareness and concern of social issues while generating a life-long interest in community service.

ElderLife is a senior center as well as an organization that provides services to the elderly such as housing coordination, volunteer opportunities, social activities and outreach.

Auction items will include gift certificates to Clinton, New Hartford and Utica restaurants and businesses; children's birthday parties; babysitting services; tickets to concerts and sporting events; a figure skating clinic provided by Hamilton College student Lisa Ervin, former U.S. National Team Figure Skater; sports clinics; and merchandise.
