Patricia Smalley, a Hamilton College trustee and the daughter of Hamilton's former Dean of the College, Winton Tolles, will deliver the annual Class and Charter Day address at Hamilton College on Friday, May 5. Her talk is titled, "Class & Charter Day - Your Day, My Recollections."

The convocation, which marks the end of the 1999-2000 academic year, will begin at 3 p.m. in the Chapel. In addition to Smalley's talk, the college will recognize outstanding students and faculty achievement through the awarding of prizes and other honors. The event is open to the public.

Smalley grew up on College Hill during the time when her father was dean of Hamilton, from 1947 to 1972. She is currently a consultant to organizations in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector in the United Kingdom, including Asia House, The Northern Ireland Voluntary Trust, the Prince of Wales Foundation for Architecture and Urban Development, and the Soane Museum. From 1994 to 1996 she was deputy commissioner in the Department of Cultural Affairs in New York City.

Smalley has been a member of Hamilton's Board of Trustees since 1994. Her husband, David, is a 1956 graduate of Hamilton, and their son, Brian, is a 1993 graduate.
