Heather VanGuilder, a junior majoring in neuroscience and philosophy, represented Hamilton College at the annual Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) "Posters on the Hill" session, held last week in Washington D.C. She presented the findings of summer research in the biochemistry/neurochemistry field carried out in collaboration with chemistry professor Tim Elgren.

CUR generates awareness and national support for undergraduate research, speaking on behalf of primarily undergraduate institutions. The organization works with federal agencies and private and local groups to develop and maintain research-based educational opportunities. For the "Posters on the Hill" conference, 60 competitively selected student posters were displayed at the U.S. Capitol during a late afternoon reception. That same day students attended an orientation session, followed by visits from students and their faculty mentors to their Representatives' and Senators' offices.

VanGuilder is the daughter of Bruce and Debby VanGuilder of Hudson Falls, NY.
