In an email to the Hamilton community President Joan Hinde Stewart announced the death on Sept. 8 of Bobby Fong, who served as Hamilton's Dean of Faculty from 1995 to 2000. He was currently president of Ursinus College.

Dear Members of the Hamilton Community,

I am writing with the shocking news that former Hamilton Dean of Faculty Bobby Fong died early this morning of a massive heart attack. Bobby was Hamilton’s dean from 1995 to 2000 before becoming president of Butler University in 2001. An Oscar Wilde scholar and an avid baseball fan, he began his Ursinus College presidency in 2011.

Bobby was a passionate advocate for the liberal arts, serving two terms as chair of the Association of American Colleges and Universities. In this morning’s announcement to the Ursinus community, he is described as a “thoughtful leader” who “was committed to higher education and believed that college was more than simply classroom experience.”

Bobby Fong is survived by his wife Suzanne and two sons.
