Hamilton College will host its first-ever TEDx event, “Curiosity and Creativity Uninhibited,” on Saturday. Oct. 10, from 3 to 6:30 p.m., at the Kennedy Center Barrett Theatre. Tickets to attend the live event have already been distributed through a lottery, but the talks will be live-streamed and publicly available to everyone. There will be a gathering in Bradford Auditorium, Kirner-Johnson building, where interested viewers can watch together.

TEDx talks are independently organized by Hamilton College students. Speakers this year include faculty, alumni, and highly-respected individuals in their fields.  The format will consist of three panels of two speakers. There will also be networking opportunities and hors d’oeuvres served between sessions.

The speakers and their topics will include in session one:  Sandy Rao ’15, a medical student at Dartmouth University, “Creativity, Your Brain, and You”; and  Jeremy Ohringer, director and teaching artist, “Using Limits for Limitless Creativity.”

Session two will feature Max Schnidman ’14, econometrician, Postal Regulatory Commission, “The Sweet Satisfaction of Statistical Analysis,” and  Ceasar McDowell, president, Interaction Institute for Social Change and professor of practice, MIT/DUSP, “Big Democracy: A Fundamental Shift.”

TED videos will be show between the first two sessions and will include “The Dancer, the Singer, and the Cellist” and “The Orchestra in My Mouth.”

Session three speakers are Azriel Grysman, Hamilton College visiting assistant professor of psychology, “Gender and Memory: Clues for Consciousness” ; and   Crystal Leigh Endsley, assistant professor of Africana Studies, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, “Spoken Word Poetry and Power: Re-mixing Master Narratives.”
