Max Stroman sank a free throw with just three secondsleft in the game to give Hamilton a 73-72 upset win over host Amherst College.The NESCAC rivals had battled through 14 lead changes and nine ties. Hamilton'sMichael Schantz tied the game at 72 on a pair of free throws with 1:02remaining before Stroman notched the game-winner. Amherst's attempt at ahalf-court game winner, something the Continentals had seen just a week earlierin a heart-breaking loss to Tufts, sailed off to the right to give Hamilton(10-7) the victory.

The Continentals had led through most of the first half as JonSchmiegel tallied 14 of his game-high 23 points on six of seven shooting.But Amherst's guard play got them back into the game, as the Lord Jeffs wereable to take a 39-37 halftime lead.

Hamilton led by as much as eight in the second half, but the Jeffs (14-2)stayed close behind Pat Mulvey (19 points) and Hugh Quattlebaum(eight points, 10 rebounds). Despite fouling out with over five minutesremaining, Schmiegel pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds.

Hamilton travels to Skidmore on Tuesday, February 10 before returning home toface Wesleyan (2/13) and Connecticut College (2/14) at Scott FieldHouse.
