A large contingent of Men's Ice Hockey players participated in the run and walk.

Hamilton women’s ice hockey, men’s ice hockey and men’s basketball team members were among participants in this year’s AK5K run and walk on Oct.12 in New Hartford, N.Y.  Representing the Hamilton community were 56 students, three parents and a sibling who participated with 900 runners and walkers, with 200 volunteers and about 500 spectators cheering them on.

The charity run and walk was in honor of Alexandra Kogut, a 2012 New Hartford Senior High School graduate who was killed inside her dorm room at SUNY Brockport in 2012.

Most of the proceeds benefit causes that were important to Kogut. Her parents set up a fund overseen by the Community Foundation.  Donations were used to put a double life guard chair on one of the lakes in the Old Forge area where Kogut worked; a local library donation was made, and the first Spell-a- Palooza was held with local “celebrities” attempting to beat local fifth grade students in a spelling bee.
