Hamilton’s Staff Assembly Committee on Wellness will sponsor the inaugural Ham & Legs Fun Run/Walk on Thursday, Oct. 11, on campus. Ninety employees have registered to compete in one of the four events:  a 5K walk, a 5K run, and 2-mile walk and a 1-mile walk. All events are non-competitive and not timed.

Linda Michels, senior assistant to the dean of faculty,  and a member of the Wellness Committee explained, “The commitment of the ad hoc Wellness Committee is to promote wellness across campus by encouraging active employee involvement with the goal of achieving a healthier work-life style.

“We thought that offering a fun, non-competitive event that gives people a choice of level of activity would also foster a sense of community that the Staff Assembly Council is striving to enhance,” she added.  “The Committee will continue to work on initiatives for healthy activities and would welcome suggestions from the community.”

The committee held a contest was held to name the event and Mary Collis, science stockroom and facility coordinator, submitted the winning entry of Ham & Legs.

All events start and finish just outside the main entrance of Alumni Gymnasium. The 5K walk will begin at 4 p.m., the 5K run starts at 4:15 p.m.; and both the 1-mile and 2-mile walk will start at 4:20 p.m. In case of rain all events will be moved indoors to the Margret Bundy Scott Field House.

The Wellness Committee has also instituted a series of flash mob walks for employees to take part in during their lunch hour.
