John O'Keefe, The Dan Dietrich playwright-in-residence will present      "Shimmerings," a selection of readings from his plays Glamour, Times Like These, The Brönte Cycle, and Shimmer, on Friday, March 4, at 4 p.m. in the Red Pit, KJ 109.  A reception will follow in Cafe Opus.
 
O'Keefe has been described as the Clint Eastwood of performance artists; he himself says that he's "basically an Irish storyteller."  Born in Waterloo, Iowa in 1940, O'Keefe grew up in a series of juvenile homes, foster homes, and orphanages.
 
He earned an MFA at the University of Iowa, and now makes his home in San Francisco.  His plays, which include Jimmy Beam, Chamber Piece, All Night Long, The Saints of Father Lyons, Ghosts, The Brontë Cycle, Times Like These, and Glamour have been produced by theatres such as New York's Second Stage, and San Francisco's Magic Theatre.  He has worked with the Iowa Theatre Lab and co-founded Berkeley's Blake Street Hawkeyes. 
 
Hamilton College will premiere O'Keefe's most recent play, Reapers, on April 14.  The production will run April 14 –16, at 8 p.m.; April 16, 2 p.m.; and April 20-23, 8 p.m. in Minor Theater.
