Novelist Kamila Shamsie ’94 will read from her work on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. in Dwight Lounge, Bristol Campus Center. The reading is free and open to the public and will be followed by a book signing. It is sponsored by the Diversity and Social Justice Project and English Department.

Shamsie's first novel, In the City by the Sea, was shortlisted for the “Mail on Sunday/John Llewellyn Rhys Prize,” and her second, Salt and Saffron, won her a place on Orange's list of “21 Writers for the 21st Century.”

She majored in creative writing at Hamilton, where she has also taught creative writing, and went on to receive a MFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

In 1999, Shamsie received the Prime Minister's Award for Literature in Pakistan. She also writes for The Guardian, The New Statesman, Index on Censorship and Prospect magazine and broadcasts on the radio.
