Karen Green, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Multicultural Affairs at Hamilton, has been honored by her alma mater, Agnes Scott College. The college has named its Human Relations Award in honor of Green, who graduated from Agnes Scott in 1986 and worked there in various capacities. After graduation from Agnes Scott, Green worked there as director of student activities and housing.  She was made advisor for multicultural affairs in 1994, and named assistant dean of  students in 1997. Green earned her master's of divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, in 1997.

The award, which was presented to Dean Green last week, said, "There are certain people in the life of an institution whose presence is transforming. Karen is one of these people, who build bridges and educate all of us in how to live together in a more fulfilling way. Her legacy will continue and contribute to the future of Agnes Scott College.

The Karen Green Human Relations Award wll be given at annually at Agnes Scott's Honors Convocation to a recipient selected by the President's Committee on Community Diversity. The award will be given to an individual(s) who has worked diligently to improve relations among diverse groups on the campus. An anonymous donor enabled the fund to be named in honor of Dean Green.

Green served as director of multicultural affairs at Hamilton from 1990-1994, then returned to the Hill in 1998. She was the first recipient of the Leadership Mohawk Valley Presenters Award in 1993. At Hamilton, Green is responsible for instituting the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day project, which this year drew 150 members of the Hamilton community to volunteer at community organizations in the area.
