Hamilton College associate professor of government Philip Klinkner was quoted in a Buffalo News article, "Taking the Reins."  The article dealt with the emphasis placed on Bush's inauguration address to the nation.

Klinkner's teaching and research focuses on American politics, especially political parties and elections, race and American politics, and American political history. He is also the director of the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center at Hamilton.

"The jury is out as to whether he has the rhetorical skills to do it," said Klinkner.

"There's a kind of shadow over this," Klinkner said of the election and inauguration. "Among the problems for him is how far can he talk to the political middle without alienating his conservative base?"

... Klinkner predicts there will be no honeymoon period for Bush.

"That train has already left the station," he said, "and I think the Ashcroft nomination could be a mistake. It has excited a range of issues before the session ever starts - race, abortion, religion, guns."
