Katharine Kuharic's "Priestess"

“Priestess,” a painting by Kevin W. Kennedy Professor of Art Katharine Kuharic, is currently on display at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) in an exhibition of more than 200 works from the Linda Lee Alter Collection of Art by Women. “The Female Gaze: Women Artists Making their World” is on view through April 7, 2013, in PAFA’s Fisher Brooks and Annenberg Galleries.

Kuharic’s painting is part of a collection of nearly 500 works by women that was donated to PAFA by collector Linda Lee Alter in 2010. According to a press release for the exhibition, “Alter formed the collection with the intention of placing it in a public institution to help women artists gain more visibility and be integrated into museum exhibitions and public programming alongside their male peers.”

The collection will tour nationally beginning in the summer of 2013.
